Dental crowns are a "gold mine" for precious metals. The best gold crowns will have been made out of a "high noble" dental alloy. This means that more than 60% of the alloy contains precious metals, whether that is gold, platinum, palladium etc) of which the majority (40% or so) would be gold. Therefore the gold content of a high noble alloy contained in a dental crown will be at least 10 karats fine and can often be as high as 20 karats.
